Connected to Cisco PIX 515E without any problems. Cons No Mac OS X Client Comment Was using a Cisco 501 and it was at end of Life. Had Cisco ASA5505 and the Netgear did everything I needed and is doing a great job. from Pcnation.com Pros Netgear FVS336G - 4x1GB LAN ports ; Acceptable Firewall/VPN router; Dual-WAN 2x1GB for HA -- if needed. Rock solid with no problems serving our 18/5 connection and auto fail over to the secondary WAN port works flawlessly even when the primary is still up but simply flaky. from Pcnation.com I use them to tie two offices together via full-time VPN tunnel, which is easy to set up, using the VPN setup wizard. I am not using the 2nd WAN on either, but I may in the future based on bandwidth needs. The (essentially unlimited) SSL VPN is a great cost-saving measure - no need to buy individual client licenses like with a SonicWALL. The SSL VPN works well with Windows and OS X, and presumably Linux, although I haven't tried it. from Amazon.com Normally, I'm a big fan of Netgear products. While the Netgear was working, I found it to be much less configurable, and much more difficult to use, than the Syswan Duolinks SW24 VPN (which I also purchased from Amazon). from Amazon.com Update: Firmware 3.0.5-25 may grant administrative access to everybody on the LAN through Telnet. These are pricey, but they seem to take anything. from Amazon.com If your buying this unit to do site to site vpn you might consider looking at the SonicWall TZ 190 too. Although this unit has a CLI, it is very limited, you will need to do most of your setup programming via the http interface. This device replaced a Cisco Pix 506 --- in side by side tests the throughput on the Netgear blew the Cisco out of the water. Also, if your trying to connect several airport extreme base stations together via Gigabit Ethernet don't bother trying to do it with the Cisco it has some incompatibility problem. from Amazon.com
