Pros: Reliable out of the box with standard configuration. Cons: Cisco website is one of the worst for customer support and FAQ's on the web. Changing the factory default configuration beyond the internal LAN IP address is risky and usually results in a non-functional device. from Newegg.com Pros: Great reputation Cons: If you have ANY inkling that you might need to contact Cisco for tech support, DON'T BUY CISCO. The run-around and double-speak I've experienced over the past two days is like no tech support experience I've ever had in my 22 year technical career. from Newegg.com After the initial setup, no maintenance has been required. Cons: UI is not for everyone. Other Thoughts: I'm not a Cisco guru, but I was 3/4 of the way to a CCNA by the time I tried to set this up (which was before they improved their GUI). Maybe easier with the new GUI, but at least back then, CLI knowledge of Cisco was required. from Newegg.com Cons: This bundle only gives you 32 DCHP client addresses on the local LAN. If you need more than this, then look at the other more expensive bundles. Also, the Cisco Pix Device Manager is very buggy and requires Java. I'm looking to buy a 506e in the future. I've recently stopped buying SOHO products and am focusing solely on CISCO due mainly to certification. I find it maxes around 30 users for optimum use (if you have a 50 user license...if you have the 10 user license, you will not have any issues running 10!) Great device though. Other Thoughts: I'm in Network Operations for a major hosting company and we use many high end Cisco, Protectpoint, and other enterprise level devices, and pound for pound this little device competes on par with the best of them.
