we have an "old school" coffee maker, but i only use that when guests come over, because it is way too much work for just one cup.

there is no mark such as 1 cup, 2 cups, so you need to be careful how much water you want to put in the beaker.

i have tried much more expensive machines that grind the beans and can be programed to make more than one cup at a time, those machines can be in the 1,000 to 2,000 dollar range!
so the 1-cup will stay put in its holder ;-)
