I have used many Krups products and rely on them UNTIL I purchased this thermal coffeemaker. My old one which I must have had for twenty years plus finally defaulted on automatic timing.
I have owned Krups appliances for years and must say that their quality has steadily, sometimes precipitously, declined. For brevity's sake I will quickly list the cons.
Newton here. This model stinks for the reasons stated in his review. The design is terrible and it can barely brew coffee. I have had my model for a couple weeks and just loaded it into a box to mail it back.
Our office got this coffee maker to replace one that was working fine before (?!) and I HATE it. I was willing to give it a good chance, but it constantly disappoints.
The one-way valve on the underside of the lid does not always open properly causing the coffee to backup on top of the lid and eventually spilling over on to the counter top (big mess). Also, according to the directions the machine is only to be used with pre-ground coffee from the store (you might grind your own beans to finely), and the water measuring device on the machine is imprecise (although some what unique) requiring a graduated container to pour from.
This is my third Krups thermal coffee maker. Spotted this new model at a BB&B store in Palm Desert, CA, in early October, 2009, and loved the new look.
I had a Krups coffeemaker with a stainless thermos for years. So long that I couldn't remember when I bought it, at least 15 years.
