the lid, with its air hole, allows steam to release without water/steam oozing between the lid and skillet during a longer cooking process.

i can see how my dinner is progressing without lifting the lid and losing all of the steam.

if i steam the carrots and potatoes and then fry them with onions and add the ramps last, it is perfect.

i love that i can see the cooking without removing the lid since it is glass - and that it is vented (a lot of glass lids are not!) to let steam escape.

a small steam vent keeps the lid from jiggling under too much pressure.

the vented glass is terrific at helping to keep you exactly aware as to where in the cooking process your food product is, without having to remove the lid and having the steam from your food product

the only thing i don't like is it does not have a steam hole in the lid.

( to the other reviewer it does vent a large amount of steam through sides of lid ) it does cook on the warmer side on low setting however , we found that it doesn't heat up as much with the lid off .

i noticed some are saying its for large families, but if you're frying something you don't want to crowd the food, or it steams instead of fries.

it is very durable so far, my only problem with it is that the glass lid has no vent, so it steams up and you can't see the food well without lifting the lid.

after using it several times, i have no complaints other than i do wish it had a steam vent in the lid.
