I have not had this item for very long but I am already in love with it. I finally parted with my old faithful GE kettle, having sent it off to my Nephew at Harvard, but Breville has already become a member of the family. from Amazon.com First, this kettle is gorgeous! I bought it for it's beauty and easy to use variable temperature and the fact it had a viewing window to easily see how much water was inside. Before I used it, I emailed Breville to find out what type of plastic the viewing window was made from. The response I received was a defensive email about how polycarbonate and BPA are safe for food contact and this kettle is safe. from Amazon.com My first Breville Variable Temperature Kettle was returned because the black tea setting wouldn't turn off automatically. Hotter water will not brew a good cup of green tea. With the Breville, all you need to do is push a button, and a couple of minutes later you have 175 degree water. With regards to material, the stainless steel is certainly preferable to plastic. Breville makes excellent products (I can also verify that for their panini press and toasters).
