I purchased this product in July 2009. I intended on performing the repair on the thermostat wire, but when I opened the product I found that it had already been done. I believe Bionaire implemented a design change took care of the problem. I have a regular standing fan in the room but it just circulates the hot air around. This window fan really helps suck in the cool air and ventilates out the hot air to cool the place off. I don't tend to use the remote control or thermostat but they have worked fine when I have used them. The remote worked well for my elderly mother who had the fan in a window behind a couch. I don't know if it's still covered by warranty. I bought a newer version of this fan that I like better, the Bionaire BW2100. Once you play with the settings then have it set, it's very reliable. When the sun faces the window we blow air out and when the shade sets we set it to blow in.
