Wize Buying Guide for Region Free

Have you ever traveled outside of the country and purchased a movie as a souvenir? If so, you might have been sorely disappointed when you tried to play it at home; DVDs and DVD players can be region specific. The world has been sliced up into 6 regions, each of which produce their own format of players and DVDs. You can get around these limits, however, by making sure that the DVD player you have is compatible with all areas. Here are several things to know before purchasing a region-free DVD player:

Video Output System

This is a key component to consider when you are looking for the right player. Besides being divided into 6 regions, the world uses two primary formats for video output: PAL and NTSC. If your DVD player supports both, you won't have any trouble playing DVDs from anywhere in the world.

Other File Formats

If you're going to be buying a region-free DVD player, you might as well make sure that it will play the other disk and file formats you might want to use. If you like to burn your own videos to DVD or CD, make sure that the unit accepts DVD-R/DVD-RW and CD-R/CD-RW formats as well as DivX, MPEG, WMV and WMA formats, or at least the ones you use most often. Once you have considered all of these options and found the player to meet your needs, you can travel the world and watch DVDs wherever you go.
