it does a great job of upconverting my sd dvd and, as a bonus, seems to play many of the +r and +rw dvd i have as well.

in addition to blu-ray discs, it can play regular dvds, dvd-r/rw (as long as they are finalized), and cds.

so i cannot speak as to the qualities of this player, but if you have +r and +rw discs then look elsewhere (sony s350 says it will play these).
