Outstanding player. Picture quality for Blu-ray and up-conversion of standard DVD's is perfection. Onkyo must have used some magic in this unit, since it has played every Blu-ray and DVD put in it without any firmware updates. from Crutchfield.com This is a decent player, but with its feature set (no internal decoding; only profile 1.1; and mediocre SD upconversion), it cannot justify this pricetag. No question. The Samsung 2550 is equal in blu ray performance, better at SD upconversion, is profile 2.0 AND can stream HD netflix and pandora internet radio for a $100 less. I got my Panasonic 35 for even less and it outperforms the Onkyo and is technically more future-proofed. from Crutchfield.com I am an Onkyo fan from way back. I ordered the BD696 and the TX806. from Amazon.com I bought the DV BD606 as a fan of almost all onkyo products. It's too expensive for a unit that lacks internal Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio decoders and 7.1-channel analog audio outputs (anyway, you can get around this if you, like I, already own an Onkyo receiver with high-resolution audio decoding) from Amazon.com It's a fantastic equipment. Works very well with Onkyo hdmi home theater that a have at home.
