Bought this in January, and at first we were pretty happy with it. Nice picture and sound, even with the older movies. About a month later, we had a cartoon on for the kids and the tv started to show green patches and static eventually grew to cover the entire screen. from Amazon.com What a piece of junk. I read some of the reviews here on Amazon before making the purchase and thought, come on, it can't be that bad. It must be a conspiracy against Toshiba or something. Now I wish I had taken those reviews to heart. from Amazon.com Pros: Cheap, easy to hook up. Cons: Crapped out in less than 6 months. from Newegg.com Other Thoughts: I bought this same DVD player as is seemed like a great deal. It worked for a couple on months then refused to read any DVD. There was no support provided by Toshiba. I was forced to throw the unit away. from Newegg.com This unit failed after about 2 months of use. It got the green squares dancing around the screen. This is the second Toshiba I have bought in the past year. The last one didn't run very long either. from Newegg.com I bought this item because I read how this product makes regular dvds look better. I agree that they do look better, but unfortunately Toshiba needs to work on making a long lasting product. The first dvd player I got work for 3 times before getting the very common "pixelating green" screen. from Amazon.com If you search this is a common problem and I thought it wouldn't happen to me but it did. I barely used the player also, only 4 - 5 rentals a month. I contacted Toshiba about it and they denied my warranty because my the time I got in contact with them it was past the 90 day warranty (phone line leads nowhere and e-mail went unanswered for weeks). Any company that only warranties their products for 90 days should arouse suspicion. from Amazon.com I replaced a Pioneer upconverting DVD player (DV400-V) with the Toshiba XDE500.
