About half the time, it gets some minutes into a program, than balks, giving us the message that it cannot record macrovision encoded material. Of course, this shows up midway in a program and when we return to finish it near the end, we find out the machine has stopped and wasted another DVD. The Sony guy says this is a normal operation. On another occasion it played a recorded DVD at a fast, speeded up pace which was weird - again, the only way to stop this was to turn off the unit and re-insert the DVD again. Stay away!! from Amazon.com I had my Sony RDR-GX360 about four months, and it operated fine, recording directly from cable TV, or downloading stuff from the cable box DVR, then suddenly during Christmas, a strange high-frequency, and very annoying noise began coming from the audio outputs (both channels). After wiring, re-wiring, and debugging (finally taking the DVD recorder out of the loop completely), I became certain that the DVD recorder was indeed the source of the high-frequency noise. from Amazon.com We bought this sorry machine because we travel a lot. We record TV on a DVR, then move the programs to DVD to watch on the road. Unfortunately, this Sony machine has a built in copy guard function that finds macrovision where none exists.
