Love the unit but it is worthless now. I would not be surprised to see a class action suit against Toshiba. I will not buy Toshiba products ever again. from Amazon.com I received the Toshiba HD-A2 as a Christmas gift (2007). On the whole I really, really like it. from Amazon.com Do not buy any Toshiba HD DVD players. Press releases state that they are no longer in the HD DVD business. from Amazon.com So I downloaded and installed an update for the DVD player (easy) and everything started to sort itself out. What has impressed me most so far is how well it upconverts. I now have a Sony PS3 in the same room which has just as good picture quality and sound when playing a blu-ray disc, but when playing a standard DVD I always use the Toshiba because it's just better. I have also been pleased that Toshiba sends each new update on CD free of charge. from Amazon.com I have owned several DVD upscaling players and not quite happy with the upconversion until I have come across this HD-A2. I've never seen so much details and clarity with my DVD collection in the past. from Amazon.com Disney, Buena Vista, Sony, Warner Brothers, New Line, MGM, and Lionsgate all release movies exclusively on Blu-ray. Do yourself a favor and avoid HD DVD players. The reason the prices are so cheap is that Toshiba knows it is dead and is probably clearing out remaining inventory. You've been warned! from Amazon.com I use the component hook-up--there is no difference in video quality, people. The HDMI interface is merely a dongle for anti-piracy. No matter, I run back-up copies of my old DVD movies and the Toshiba then upscales them wonderfully. I do this so anyway so my kids can't wreck the originals--you know how kids are. from Amazon.com I bought this for my folks so they could watch the HD version of Planet Earth and it seems to work fine. My only complaint is that Toshiba doesn't provide and HDMI cable with the unit.
