i owned an older philips divx dvd-player and it did the job - you burn avi's onto a dvd and it will play them.
my first older philips dvd player was wonderful and then i upgraded and although the player did play all region of dvds it was really slow to turn on, to get the tray out and when using the remote
philips is just another name for magnavox (and i don't like magnavox products based on many years in the tv repair business), but i will give them credit for producing a good product at a good price.
there are so many good reviews in great details about this product (or other philips dvp59xx, they're quite similar) in the amazon site, i'm not going to repeat them.
i have some low quality episode rips of "rescue me" that are very blotchy on my macbook @ 1280x800, but playing from the philips player they look almost dvd quality on my television.
philips brand name.
i've been a fan of philips dvd players for a while.
if you don't need blue ray playback yet in a dvd player then check this philips dvd player out.
i have purchased a few dvd players by other manufactures that claim they can play all divx files but this one by philips is the best.
the philips dvp5992/37 works exactly as it is intended to work.
