Namco Museum brings some classic games back to life on the Nintendo DS. By using an easy to use interface, Namco Museum consists of 7 classic games which are: Galaxian, Pac-Man, Galaga, Xevious, Mappy, The Tower of Druaga and Dig Dug.
Namco was one of the first out of the gate with what we now see as the modern retro compilation. The Namco Museum series dates all the way back to the original PlayStation.
I wish this game had Dig Dug 1 not Dig Dug 2, but overall this is a fun DS game to own. The sound and graphics quality of video games over the last 10 years are phenominal and they continue to improve! If you're young you may think the Namco Museum Games are somewhat plain compared to all the latest video games. You'll be right, but you'll be missing the point of Namco Museum.
A little while back I bought the DS version of Bubble Bobble containing a spot on translation of the classic game. Despite being over 20 years old Bubble Bobble is still loads of fun. After searching for some more classic games on the DS I discovered that two I have particularly warm memories of were being released in the new Namco collection. These included Xevious and Mappy.
I purchased this seeing that there were so many games on it that sounded like they would be a lot of fun and easy enough for my young child to do.
You'll also find a library section with some historical info about each game and a sound test mode where you can listen to all the music, as well as sound effects, from each arcade game.
Right off the bat, you're given a cool intro sequence that cleverly combines the graphics from all of the Namco classics.
The problem is, not only are the backgrounds too dark but the graphics are way to small.
Pac-Man gameplay has been well duplicated on the DS, and you only need one copy of the cart to play it, which is nice.
Along with the classic games, you?re given the ability to listen to all the sounds and music from each game and can create a play list if you really want to.
