I researched dishwashers for awhile before my purchase. This Whirlpool was top rated in it's price range. I love it and couldn't be happier. from Ajmadison.com Whirlpool and others make quieter dishwashers but for our use this one is great. We are almost never in the kitchen when it runs, so being super quiet is not that important. from Ajmadison.com Every time we use this dishwasher, we have at least 7 still dirty utensils and sometimes bowls and plates which need to be rewashed by hand. This dishwasher, while it functions, does not appear to clean properly. The utensil basket is awkward and I do not believe it is positioned properly in the unit. During installation I realized that it did not come with a cord and was told by Sears that "they don't come with cords" -- two other stores, not Sears, also agreed so I had to purchase the power cord. from Sears.com

We have a 4 year old house where the builder installed the cheapest possible appliances. That said, we decided that we'd change them all as they broke down.

From the start, there was a problem with the soap dispenser and umpteen service calls were made. Just before the warranty expired, Whirlpool agreed to replace the unit. Within three months, the replacement began to exhibit exactly the same behavior. from Amazon.com
