I 'upgraded' to this unit when I moved and used it replace my Tivo HD DVR. The primary issue is losing your HD channels and having nothing but a grey screen. from Circuitcity.com I have had directv for 10 years and had all there dvrs. All but this one were tivo's and all had there issues but they all recorded my shows. from Circuitcity.com I loved the picture quality with the HD DVR and DirecTV had so many HD channelsto choose from it was awsome. I love it and will never go back to regular viewing again. from Circuitcity.com I have an HR20-700. If it weren't for the almost daily feeezes (necessary resets) this DVR would be fine. from Amazon.com After reading these reviews you may be saying to yourself, "these angry people just got a bad unit" or maybe even "Direct Tv is a great company, they'd never put a defective product on the market". HA! I'm an idiot that thought these things AND BOUGHT IT ANYWAY! from Amazon.com This receiver is absolutely useless piece of junk. It crashes about 4 times a day and in my case it takes about 30 minutes for the receiver to come back after each crash. The best use for it would be a radiator/heater for your living room since it is quite hot when you touch it. As soon as I am out of contract - or even close to it (since the contract is pro-rated) I am done with DirectTV and going back to local cable. from Amazon.com I own 5 DirecTV TIVO DVRs and have been very happy with them, with only occasional problems. My guess is that the firmware on the HR20-700's being released currently might have fixed many of the issues others were having earlier in the release of the units. from Amazon.com
