Wize Buying Guide for Party Photos
You may think you need a special digital camera to capture that special moment: a wedding, graduation, birthday celeberation, anniversary party or any moment you want to comemorate.
But with the high quality of today's digital cameras, most basic low- to mid-priced models will deliver good image quality -- as good or better than print snapshots produced in a lab.
If you plan on printing the photographs or desire premium image quality, be sure to check the camera’s resolution specifications. Camera resolutions starting at 1600x1200 will produce photo-quality 4x5 inch prints. Larger prints will become grainy, but resolutions of 2240x1680 (found on 4+ megapixel cameras) provide even higher quality and can print as large as 16x20 inches. This is the current “standard” digital camera. Top-of-the-line cameras will start at a resolution of 4064x2704 (11+ megapixels) and will produce 13.5x9 inch prints without any loss of quality.
Lower-end cameras, usually below the $150 price range, will have 256x256 to 640x480 resolution. These images will not be of a good quality when printed, nor will they provide much clarity when viewed on a computer screen. If you want to replace your family's film-based camera and capture an unforgettable day, prepare to spend at least $350 for a resolution of at least 2240x1680.
