for video, you generally want double the capacity you expect to use.

in general the higher the frame bit rate and resolution, the longer it will take to process and edit the video and much longer to burn it on dvd or bluray.

we've had the camera for just over a week now, and the image quality is generally outstanding.

however, from the various reviews that i've read, battery life is generally an issue with most hi-tech cameras, so since was not really a determining factor for me.

generally, the camera is comfortable to hold, image stabilization is excellent (better than the canon).

but in general, this appears to be a good video camera if you want to upgrade to an hd-quality video camera and also be able to take good quality stills in one small unit.
