it makes for nice videos especially around water but i wish the photos had the quality of a big lenz camera and the proper color for the blue tones.
also it uses sdhc memory cards instead of sony's expensive memory stick.
if you're looking for small camcorder with excellent picture and do not care much about the price, this canon hf s100 is the one.
also expect the price to drop $50-$100 in next 4 months.maybe under $900 by xmas (sales).be very careful of the memorystick/card camcorder contacts once erroded or loses its ability to make solid

I had a bit of trouble figuring out how to get the movies I recorded to talk to my computer - I figured that running Windows XP on a new computer would expedite the process...
The top reason to choose the DC 10 is value.
The Canon DC 10 is a great value - I got mine through buydig.com and paid easily $100 less than if I'd bought in a chain electronics store.
- great value
additional thoughtsfor the price, this camcorder is a great deal.
i opened the camcorder, went outside and started recording to try it out.
(low light footage is expectedly a bit grainy just as it was with the hv30 - and always is with small handheld models - and daylight footage is near perfect.) and the audio quality is as good as
one of the best hd camcorder with such a great price compared with the functions it offers.
(i have not been impressed with 24p as it reminds me too much of cheap digital camera video clips.
can't wait to see how it does on my next blue water trip and deer hunts this fall!!
i'm more then happy with my new cam, the quality and the color in the picture are amazing for the price.

summary: i'm not really a canon fan, but every time i ponder a video/still camera purchase, i always compare sony models and have not been disappointed with canon products so far.
pros: many neat features, good value for its price, and portable.
the video quality is excellent and it is very easy to copy your still shots and videos using usb 2.0 or firewire to your windows xp pc.
overall, excellent value in a market where each new model year of camcorders seems to be reducing feature and functionality.
