i love this camcorder and i have had no mechanical problems with it whatsoever, the only problem with it and the reason i gave it four stars is because of the wind noise.
you get no error message and it simply shuts the window.
two gripes though....number one, it can take fifteen minutes to finalize the disk before you can drop it into a dvd plaver.....number two, it really needs a wind filter because you practically lose
as i have not had enough experience with it yet (one week) i will write a follow-up at a later date, but the story so far is " a great cam with a lot of features and crystal clear playback, wind
i even tired one, the panasonic m50 but returned it to the store after few days because of awful performance, bad colors, resolution, dark picture in the middle of a sunny day.
it's probably the best camcorder out there, considering the price range.
faster transfer to a pc and a lot of features of a expensive camera with a great price.
i needed a relatively inexpensive, compact, digital camcorder.
i love it's compact size in its very affordable package.
the price of those reflects the still photo option, but the pixels are so small on both (.33 and 1 ) respectively, you can only e-mail and don't even bother wasting your ink on prints.

most of the problems were with over exposing for outside.
"as the price tag and ease of use indicate, sony's dcr-dvd203 aims to let budget-conscious buyers into the digital camera market.
Value:
The user who complained about color must have a faulty unit, I'd recommend he contact Sony since both indoor and outdoor colors on my HC40 are very good indeed.
I was able to suck down the clips I want into destination software (iMovieDV Mac and Adobe Premiere Elements 2.0 on Windows) Both downloaded just fine.
It takes great video shots in the daylight time.
The Bottom Line: If Sony decides to price their camcorders better, then it would be a much better value.
pros: many neat features, good value for its price, and portable.
the video quality is excellent and it is very easy to copy your still shots and videos using usb 2.0 or firewire to your windows xp pc.
overall, excellent value in a market where each new model year of camcorders seems to be reducing feature and functionality.
Outside daylight recording is acceptable.
Cons: Microphone sensitive to wind, getting used to not having a viewfinder, bad low light performance.
My neigbor borrowed it on a trip to Hawaii and apologized over and over as they had left it on a patio and it was exposed to about 30 minutes of light rain.
Even at its original retail price, Sony has packed so much technology into that sleek design that it's truly an amazing gadget.
bought this camcorder about a week ago: the picture quality is great outdoors, the zoom is awesome however, its not a great camcorder if you take many videos inside.
Before you pull your hair out, be sure to set usb streaming to 'on' so you can transfer videos to an editor such as windows movie maker.
It´s a Great camcorder, this 2007 model has a good price, this camcorder its for personal use and I buy it to recorder my daughter first steps, and summer vacations.
This is an excellent value at a reasonable price.
These things aside, the price has been reduced considerably, making this a great value!
Again I am using artificial light but the few outdoors shots for comparison use only still demonstrated a less detailed performance from the Canon.
At todays low prices, it's worth the investment.
