The Canon HV30 does a great job for home HD movies. You can definitely see the HD picture quality from regular videos on an HD screen. from Crutchfield.com I upgraded to HV30 after my old JVC gave me a E04 error & stopped accepting tapes. So far I am happy with the purchase. from Compusa.com Scrolling forever through the functions to make simple adjustments gets old fast. The cheap, soft plastic lens screw mounts are already stripping from taking on and off the wide angle converter. My god, how many pennies did Canon save by skimping on steel? The big problem was that I found a fiber strand inside the lens filament 4 months after I got it, it had been there since I bought it I just hadn't looked that closely, not having a big HD tv I had only viewed the video on the small screen. from Amazon.com I bought my HV30 a couple of months ago, not exactly knowing much about the camera. The HV30's incredible image quality and low light performance is unmatched by any other camcorders I have seen or worked with. At first glance the operation seems similar to my older cameras (which were Sonys and I liked them) but when I downloaded the footage to my computer and watched it on our 47 inch hd tv..... from Amazon.com I never use the view finder anyway so it's not a problem for me. The life of the included battery is not long so buy another one. Also, unlike a Canon rebel camera, it does not come with an external charger for the battery.
