The AVCHD format of the video prevents you from editing the footage with Premiere, Edius, or anything but Sony's cheesy software, which stinks.
I bought the Sony DCR-DVD405 and wasn't impressed with the quality.

"the sony handycam dcr-dvd405 is a solid dvd camcorder, as long as you don't mind fiddling with a touch-screen interface on a too-small display."
this camera lacks the capability to take digital stills on the fly and i'm happy about that too since sony gives you other features in it's place.
i just purchased the sony hdr-fx1 about three weeks ago and had it shipped home to bermuda from b & h.
i started with old sony ” open reel sony stuff (portapak i think it was what the portable unit was called) and have used most of sony’s evolutionary line up of video equipment from u-matic, to
the sony hdr-fx1 is a wonderful camcorder for hd and still pictures.
"at this time it does not get any better than the hdr-fx1 and it appears that sony has once again set the landmark for quality."
sony needs to include "1" disc so this can be used right out of the box....not having the disc was a big disappointment....who wants to open a gift they have to go buy something for before they ever
