the canon minidv camera is a great little camera for a starter in digital recording or replacement for an aging minidv unit.
canon paid for shipping both ways and repaired it perfectly...no questions asked (or money for that matter).
i love this camera and and hooke don canon products.
the canon zr930 and the zr900 both do state that they have microphone input on the canon website.
canon put out a quality 800 series last year (which was their mid-priced cameras) and now they have dropped their top-of-the-line series this year to concentrate on the more popular mid-priced

the canon zr830 is without a doubt a pretty good dv camcorder at a pretty good price.
so checked canon web site - it said for both windows & mac osx.

1st: I've had my Canon ZR700 since September and it's never been out of my possesion since...well, maybe one day it was :) It is a good camcorder for day time or well lit recording.

Canon Optura S1 is decent camcorder for those amateurs like me.
The Optura S1 is a replacement to my old but high quality Canon hi-8mm eye calibration camcorder which I purchased over 10 years ago.
Canon Optura S1 is much better than the old Sharp Z3U in every aspects, except that both are only 10x optical zoom.
Pros: good inexpensive camcorder, Canon's great support and help line.
This means, that in Canon’s night mode, everything is still very dark and focusing is a nightmare.
After all, it is supposed to be the top Canon miniDV camera.
However, I strongly recommend paying $760 for the Canon DC50.
But if you are like me and the widescreen is all you really care about then get the Canon ZR 800 because you get the true widescreen and an external microphone jack also.
Add me to the list of customers who have been burned by Canon camcorders...and for me this is the second time around and with a completely different camera.
