I purchased this unit based on the manufacturer's claims of quiet operation and a 46-pint capacity. I had purchased a Kenmore 50-pint unit from Sears, but I was not happy with the noise level of that unit. from Amazon.com SPT SD-46T 46-Pint Dehumidifier, purchased 3 years ago. Good: Quiet on LOW, slick design, UV lamp, fancy red light when bucket is full, energy efficient - using "rotary compressor", etc. from Amazon.com Our basement is 500 sq.ft. and this unit did a very good job removing 46 pints of water per day. This dehumidifier has a built-in UV light to sanitize the room by eliminating germs and bacteria. from Target.com Worked great in our house that we recently purchased, since our place had damp areas where mold was growing. We got rid of the mold by thoroughly cleaning the area and this dehumidifier helps to keep them from growing back. from Amazon.com This unit has done more than I expected it to do. It has eliminated our moisture problems caused by a steamy bathroom without an exhaust vent. from Amazon.com Hi, Wish I would have bought 3 of these instead of NOISY COMPRESSOR TYPES. I have to run all 3 dehumidiers in my house almost continuously (2 Compressor types & this wonderful quiet SPT) to keep the humidity under 50% keeping the Mold growth at bay (Not Fun!) This quiet unit is perfect for the bedroom or living room and the added UV is a fanstastic plus. from Amazon.com THis worked well at pulling in moisture, but it's not energy star qualified-REALLY sucks power. Also, the UV light seems like a good idea for killing bacteria, but this machine gives off a significant amount of ozone compared to other machines without ion/uv.... from Target.com My kids have allergies. The reason I recommended this model is because it's quiet and it features the titanium dioxide filter with UV light. This great feature will eliminate volatile organic compounds such as mold, spores, germs and bacteria. from Target.com Really like the size of this unit and it starts right up when you plug it in.
