Yes the unit is fairly quiet and yes, it pulls a lot of moisture out of the air. That said, I'm not sure the humidistat even works. The LG's humidistat is set to it's highest level - 70%RH, and my basement's humidity is currently 55% at 71 degrees. Meanwhille, the unit runs for 2 minutes, turns off for 2 minutes, runs for 2 minutes .... from Homedepot.com I bought this LG product primarily because of its aesthetics. The manual says it has a 5 year parts & labor warranty. I took it in to the repair shop recommended by LG. It still makes the same amount of noise and vibration because it is circulating air but it does not extract any humidity from the air (there is no water in the reservoir, not even leaks on the floor). The 65 pint is in a very damp basement that measures about 25 x 30, which it covers significantly well--during the summer, I have to empty it every 12 hours.
