all over my kitchen, the deep fryer managed to contain all those splatters quite nicely, so on balance i'd say the tradeoff between messy kitchen or messy appliance works in favor of the fryer.

heavy residues are easily removed with a good paper towel and the remainder of the normally messy clean up is almost fun.
