haven't used the probe yet so can't comment on that, except to say that if the probe isn't in place when you're cooking then you may get a little of the cooking juice splashed out as your food simmers

i was a little concerned about the fact that there is a hole in the lid where the probe goes in and what that would do when the probe isn't being used, but so far it is just fine, i haven't noticed
