it's wonderful for baking potatoes and i use it often to carry food to school where i work.

i really love the lock down feature when carrying it somewhere, so there is no spillage.
i especially like that fact that it seals that way if you need carry somewhere it won't spill or anything!
it has a super tight non spill seal, carrying bag, and holder for the spoon.
i love the fact that the lid can be locked down for transportation, and it also comes with a bonus carrying case!
it would also keep food from spilling all over the place if you chose to throw the thing in the back of the car and drive to an event.

you can then set the slow cooker in the carrying case by fitting the handles through the openings in the case, zip it up and you're ready to go.
the cooking time was cut in half, by having a lift out casserole bowl.it has a carrier that zips up to keep contents warm while transporting it.
i turn it on high, measure the water carefully for the rice, and a few hours later, it is perfect (that is for brown rice which takes longer than white).
i think with reasonable care we will enjoy using it for several years.
do read and follow the insructions carefully in that this is a hotter unit than a conventional slow cooker.

i never did care for the favor of roasts cooked in a crockpot style cooker, and my sister has had a westbend cooker for many, many years, and i always liked the way her roasts tasted from it.
it is also easy to carry from location to location.

i have been using the west bend slow cooker for 30+ years, despite the fact that they are so hard to find...the stores no longer carry them.

i tried a pot roast in this one yesterday (2 pound roast with onions, carrots, and potatoes, and it was too small.
so you need to be careful and remember not to leave it plug after using it.
i keep it in the trunk of my car and if we're feeling like making something at work it's readily available.
update: after using it a dozen times or so, i twisted the knob without being careful and without thinking about being careful.
i read all of the reviews about the switch falling off or breaking but you just have to be careful and i dont see it breaking at all - i can see it coming off if youre constantly twisting it back and
i only wish it were inflatable, unbreakable and portable so i could carry it around when i travel!!
i did find one issue which farberware customer service is taking care of for us.
the last one was simply potatoes, carrots (on bottom) and 2 1/2 lb chuck roast.
i took very good care of it.
the freedom to carry the crock to the table for serving, and the metal rimmed lid that prevents chipping is great.
my big issue - you have to be careful with the largest pot.

i treated this pretty unit carefully, so nothing was ever spilled on it, it never needed wiping, and was never bumped or dropped.
you need a great deal of strength and must do it very carefully so not to break the little plastic holder.
