My older Rival crock pots have always been wonderful to use, cooking the food slowly and consistently every time. I have been able to leave food in them for even 10 hrs. from Amazon.com I was out walking Izzy, our dog, when I saw a rival smart pot sitting on the curb in front of a neighbor's house waiting for the trash truck. I picked it up and brought it home, plugged it in, and it worked great, getting nice and toasty. from Amazon.com That one was returned and I thought I would give the product another chance: Rival had a good idea in making this slow cooker programmable, ergo the 2 stars. I had been so happy with the one I had so I wouldn't even consider trying another brand. from Amazon.com The last straw was when I tried to make a slowcooker oatmeal recipe in it that was supposed to take eight hours, and woke up only five hours later to find that the oatmeal was burnt to the point of charring, and a small amount of smoke came out of the pot when I lifted the lid. It boils everything to a crisp in one hour. Rival could have made this better if it actually put a control that really reduces the heat on the low setting. They should recall this one too. from Amazon.com I have had a problem with this crock pot from the first day I received it and tried it out less than a year ago. The oval top never fit snugly on the ceramic base which makes me think that is the main reason everything I cooked in it dried out. I contacted Rival and told them that not only did the top not fit securely on the ceramic base but the ceramic base itself wobbled around inside the metal pot. I was told they were "made that way." Oh sure. from Amazon.com I bought my crockpot a couple of years ago. It has always overcooked the food. Today I did a google search, and it seems that the Rival brand has this problem. The outside of the pot was burning hot and the bag of bread that I had sitting on the counter near the crock pot had melted--ruining my chance of even having a sandwich.
