In our kitchen, this slow cooker performs precisely as advertised. The variable heat control provides some flexibility in cooking time. The features which set the West Bend 84716 Versatility 6-Quart Oval Slo-Cooker apart from others include 1)the nonstick "pot" can be used to brown roasts and cook them in the same vessel, and 2) when you're done cooking, the pot can go in the dishwasher for a no fuss cleanup, or because it is nonstick, it hand washes easily. In all, this is an excellent product-fairly priced and does what it claims. from Amazon.com Perfect!! Cooker is teflon which is exactly what I was looking for. For years, I have used their original version and would not trade it for the world. from Amazon.com I bought this slow cooker because: a) it's oval rather than round (which makes it good for things beyond soups and stews, like roasts); b) it's large enough to cook a whole chicken or even a turkey breast; c) it's lighter in weight than crockpots with a stoneware insert; d) the pot can be set on the stove to brown/saute or even put in the oven. All great ideas, but the one sent to me boiled on low, boiled on "keep warm," so clearly there's a thermostat malfunction. I'm sending it back for a refund and am ordering West Bend's 6 quart white oval crockery cooker with a stoneware insert (I don't completely trust the safety of nonstick coating over time, and glazed stoneware is as easy to clean as any nonstick coating I've ever tried.) A final note on crockpot size: Several books on crockpot recipes say a crockpot should never be less than half full or more than 2/3 to 3/4 full for optimal cooking. from Amazon.com I love this slow cooker.
