the pad that comes with the crib is so thin it doesn't keep its shape at all.
we also got a nice mattress pad in a porta crib size that was marked "extra deep" which makes it even more comfortable.
we use the crib with the da vinci 50 coil mini crib mattress (i threw out the thin mattress pad the crib comes with).
we will replace the mattress pad in about 2-3 months though.
we used bumper pads with ours as soon as baby was scooting toward rails.
i also like the extra storage pockets on the side for burp cloths, an extra sheet, nursing pads, or whatever else i need in the middle of the night.
- i agree with other reviewers that the mattress is hard but i haven't done anything about that because my baby has not been bothered by it but i plan to pad it with a blanket as i have noticed he
by the way, instead of using bassinet sheets, try chennile changing pad covers.
i found it to be a bit hard so i purchased a little pad and cut it to fit.
the mattress pad itself seems alright - there are divets running where it folds up.
i did cut down a basic foam pad and add that on top the the provided mattress, just for a little extra cushion.
it also comes with a thick pad.
i wish they made a thick fitted pad to put under the sheet.
+ thicker, more comfortable mattress pad in this baby bjorn (vs those in pack and plays), so the surface seems more comfortable for sleeping.
for future trips, i'm tempted to replace the basic foam pad with something more luxurious like memory foam...
don't attach a mobile to it unless you pad it...
the only drawback is that it's crazy hard tying a bumper pad onto it when you have it at the highest level for an infant - i am not looking forward to having to deal with that when changing the sheets
the only problem we had with this crib was the bumper pad would not tie on unless the mattress was low because of the wide railing.
we have a dust ruffle and bumper padding and although it might be hard to tie in one area of the sleigh type post, it's manageable.
there are no spaces between the rails and mattress, especially when the mattress pad and sheets are on it.
i gave it 4 stars and not 5 because initial set up was a bit difficult(we definitely used the directions), the mattress pad is a little hard (i wish it was softer) and the sheets are expensive.
the mattress is a little hard so you can make it softer by putting a quilted mattress pad on it and using a quilted pack n play sheet (by graco) instead of the cosleeper sheet.
re: padding, the mattress is thin but i added a sheet protector underneath the sheet which gave it a little more padding.
second, my daughter never really found the pad to be comfortable.
everything is secured including the mattress pad in both the bassinett position and the playard position.
purchased the leg extension as we have a deep mattress with a 3" foam pad on top of our pillowtop mattress.
we got by with just one extra set of sheets because we're cheap, and we used a disposable pad underneath the baby to catch most accidents.
cons: skimpy pad, fixed this with a contour changing pad/mattress the bottom line: you won't be disappointed with this!
pros: keeps baby within reach, perfect size, easy to set up cons: sleeping pad could be better, hard to take down the bottom line: better and closer than a bassinet.
and yes, fitting the bumper pads around the edge of the bed is a bit hard due to the design but with a bit of creativity, i was able to secure my expensive crib set just fine and it looks wonderful.
the only thing i didnt like about it is because the sides and the back design its kind of hard to attach things like bumper pads mobiles and crib toys, but the design of the crib is what makes it
i have also had to get creative in how i keep the bumper pad safetly tied in the crib since the sides have no slats.
the only thing i was unhappy about was the fact that my bumper pads didn't work well because of the tie strings wouldn't reach around the center slat in bed, but i made adjustments.
it makes it difficult to attach and secure the bumper pads- we ended up putting a little strip of velcro on the ends to secure the pads.
you must (should) buy a thicker mattress pad for it b/c the one that comes with it is no more than an inch thick.
the only annoying thing is that the mattress pad that comes with it is so flimsy as to be practically unusable.
i would also recommend buying one of the port-a-crib bumper pad sets (around 40-50.00) from babies r us because they fit this crib the best.
bumber pads are also recommended against by *all* modern advice sites and classes.
some have complained about the mattress pad being to thin for the baby's comfort.
i did purchase the 2.5" mattress pad available on amazon.com after reading reviews, and am i glad i did!
the mattress pad is very thin, but every bassinet i have ever seen has the same thin mattress, i just wrap a quilt around it to make it a little cushier.
the mattress is too thin so we do add padding of a blanket under the sheet so he doesn't get flat spots.
nice bedding set and pad.
i would have gotten something more padded.
my baby slept better with extra padding (i used fleece blanket under the sheets).
the only other thing is that the bassinet pad is very thin and makes some noise when the baby moves, it is covered with a very thin type of vinyl.
if you don't like the pad (it is a little thin) and sheet, i bought a bassinet pad for about $15 and a plain yellow sheet and i am very happy with it.
the mattress pad is a bit thin so i put a small piece of eggcrate on the bottom and it worked like a charm.
my only problem with this bassinet is that the bassinet pad is extremely thin and you can feel right down to the hard board underneath, so i had to replace the pad with a thicker one.
i agree that the pad is a bit thin, but it seems comfortable enough.
