I purchased this product for $59.99 with no shipping cost, not a better price anywhere. Take my advice and by these while there're still available. This is my second set of ALTEC LANSING VS4121BLK 31 watt 2.1 speakers. The first pair are still kicking .ss! from Newegg.com What first attracted me to the Altec Lansing VS4121 was the design. I love my Altec Lansing VS2121's but the volume control was getting scratchy so I thought these would replace them. from Amazon.com Pros: These speakers have great treble and bass for computer speakers. Volume, treble, bass, & power controls are all on the right satellite (no remote to lose or die - Murphy's Law) The subwoofer delivers a good clean bass. Cons: None. from Newegg.com Bass is ok. Cons: The highs and mids are these speakers are very muddled. I try to get quality speakers -- though I don't consider myself an audiophile -- but these speakers just bug me. I'm using these on the audio-out of my new Samsung LCD, and I actually get a better aural experience by using the Samsung speakers to "fill in" the sound. from Newegg.com I bought these speakers several years ago and they sound great, crisp highs, tight bass. I recently bought another set of the same model number, VS4121, and they sound completely different. In a side by side test the new ones have more bass but it is very muddy, the highs are not as crisp, and the treble needs to be turned up higher. from Amazon.com It's not hum from the speaker driver itself, it's hum from the transformer and electronics on the amplifier inside the sub, and the resonance of the box is doing it. Other Thoughts: My case might be worse because I have a UPS on the same outlet that could be adding harmonics to the AC. However, when I went to the local brick and morter to buy my new speakers, I checked the VS4121's out on display, and I could hear the hum at the subwoofer. The best part about these speakers is that you have control over treble and bass, so you don't have to deal with the loud bangs when you don't want to. from Amazon.com I put my sub-woofer under my wooden desk and I really have to be careful not to have to much bass, as it will disturb my neighors, even to this day. Tiger Direct is selling this set for a 'song'. Altec Lansing is well known in the audio speaker world and is a trusted name.
