Best Coffee Makers for American Made

the last time i made a cup of coffee for myself (american style) in any kind of a machine was in 1997.

cleaning is a snap, my only real gripes are the water reservoir - obviously designed with coffee-sipping europeans in mind, not us coffee-drinking americans.

i thought when i bought it, it had a setting for "americano" ie.

i use illy, but any espresso will do (i actually get the illy dark roast - it has more flavor when brewing a larger "americano" cup).

i opted for a #4 gold cone filter (the new units use a #4 filter, not #3 as advertised - this makes it much easier for us americans to find!) as i can't stand the paper taste.

th ec-bd15 indicates it's a 10 cup, but i currently use 2 cups / american cup (or mug), so it's more likely you'll pull 5 cups out of a full load.

be aware, however, that it has a few quirky design elements if you are used to american coffeemakers.

it really just looks like a translation problem for the american market that uses #4 filters.

this 23-oz french press makes about 2 regular american mug-size cups of good coffee- perfect for me and a friend.

the "5-6 cups" specified in the description are 4-oz cups (demitasse size), not our typical american mugs, so bear that in mind.

5-6 cups is a classic european cup, for me and my american supersized caffeine addiction, i get about two cups.

so the 3 cup size gives you one american mug of coffee, and the 8 cup gives you about 2 and a half.

i plan on making my boyfriend iced americanos in the future...and so far i am not doubting my new little espresso machine!
