I like the idea of a small coffee maker that still makes 5 cups and this fits the bill in that regard. And the timer works well unless you have a power failure, in which case you have to reset everything. from Amazon.com If you really want it to stay in place, you could try using one of those non-skid rubber mats underneath? I'm giving this 4 stars only because it doesn't match up to the Senseo (which costs $70) since that machine uses turbulence to create a nice frothy-fresh cup each time, then again the single serve pods are a lot more expensive and it has a weird round base design which takes up more counter space...so I'd probably give that one 4.5 stars. The Black & Decker is about on par with the standard Gevalia I used, since that one was a basic brewer, but the larger insulated carafe was harder to clean and was also a lot more capacity than I needed. It is more compact than a standard size coffee maker, and, with daily use for the past year, it has been very reliable for me. The carafe is also poorly designed - you have to hold it just right in order to not spill the coffee while pouring. Also, the water level is extremely hard to see with these 48 year old eyes, it's set against a black background with no little red ball like some makers have, so you have to have it in bright light, and even then it's hard to judge the water level as you're filling.
