if you've got a bit more money, i'd recommend the rancilio rocky, which typically sells for $280: it's quieter and more rugged, but uses the identical burrs to the mdf.
its amazingly quiet considering whats happening to those poor little beans...it gives me just the grade of grind i need for my espresso machine to get a perfect shot...but it gets a 4 rather than 5
i read a comment that the product makes quite a bit of noise, but i don't find it unusual; and the beans are finished grinding in seconds, so whatever noise it makes isn't a big deal to me.
the grinder is not loud when it operates.
i know that people say this grinder is loud, but i don't think it's too bad...my 2yr old son wasn't scared of it, and in fact, likes to hold the button down for me!
it is loud, but i have yet to see a noiseless coffee grinder.

noise is not excessive and is comparable to my old blade grinder.
although it is loud, hard to judge degree of grind and no way except using it to correlate amount of beans needed to produce amount of ground coffee desired, it grinds quickly and evenly, celans up
also a quieter grinder than we are used to.
quick and quiet.
this krups grinder is pleasing to use, with a fairly heavy feel to it and a smooth yet quiet grind.

it is fast, not noisy and never ever had this fine powder coffee out of a blade grinder.

the only downfall with this grinder is it is louder than i expected from a grinder.

it's not too loud either, but naturally, it is not silent!
my only little complaint, and reason for four stars instead of 5, is that it is very loud.
is it loud?
1) noise: this grinder is fairly noisy, but then again, so are most grinders.
i gave up on burr grinders because they are messy, hard to clean, produce a bitter powder, and are so noisy you almost need earplugs to use them.
the only negatives i saw in the reviews of this product were the noise, which is irrelevant in my case because the grinder would be used at work where everyone was, presumably, already awake; and the

it is loud, but, not louder than any other grinder i've had.
at first i was surprised by the size of the grinder (i thought it was large) and also thought it was a little noisy, but my 17 month old son has yet to wake up while i'm grinding coffee beans at 6 am.
people say it's loud, and it is louder than the old blade grinder, but it doesn't wake my wife up and believe me, i'd hear about it if it did.
also the machine is quiet noisy and you also can't fill it with too many coffee beans at one time.
