the time is easier to read, it throws a large, red segmented time display slightly below eye level when the clock is, for instance, on a table by your bed and you're on your back looking upward.
my parents' clock is on my dad's side of the bed, so she has to ask him when ever she wants to know what time it is.
it works fantastic...no more searching for the clock on the other side of the bed.
you can be half blind and still see it and you don't have to raise up out of the bed to try to see the clock on the nightstand.
it also shows temp, date and projects it on the ceiling so i don't even have to roll my lazy self over in bed to see what time it is.
i didn't buy it for sound quality, i purchased this product to get me out of bed everyday without checking and seting the time everynight.
however, my alarm clock is set on a shelf above my bed, and i have to get on my knees and view it squarely in order to see the numbers at all.
so easy to set and doesn't take up much space on my bedside table.
it's like having a night light right next to my bed, and i prefer the room to be completely dark when i'm going to sleep.
it definitely makes bed time more fun.

i am using it in a small one bedroom apt in the living room, so i have to weight my listening level with the privacy of other tenants the 3" speaker does this very nicely set around 35 to 38
but, i bought the unit for a bedroom where it would be used as a clock and occasional alarm in addition to a radio.
i purchased the radio because i wanted a high quality and long lasting radio for my bedside table.
i set the radio first to "gently" wake me up, then the buzzer signal me to get out of bed.
i was looking for a dual alarm clock with larger display that did not light up the whole bedroom at night.

the only negative we have is that we cannot use it as a bedside clock radio.
the only negative of note is the bright blue backlight...it is too bright to leave on at night, if used as a bedside clock radio.
this makes it way too much light for a bed-side clock radio so i have to leave the backlight off because that's where i keep it.
i wouldn't use it as a bedside alarm clock, i think it is best left for exclusive use as a weather radio / alert.
that means i can stream music to it with an airport express, use it with an ipod, as a radio, or to boost the bedroom tv audio, all without having to switch cables around.
it has now replaced my receptor radio on the bed stand and the tivoli with it's ipod adaptor on the bookcase.
i own two of these; bought one for my bedroom first and use it just as a radio and alarm clock.
other thoughts: this is still just a desktop/bedside radio stereo.

use in bedroom for main alarm clock, i like the big numbers and big snooze bar.
the base sets nicely on the bed table and doesn't slip around like the old model.
i have very bad reception in the bedroom, and getting a radio to tune in and stay tuned has been impossible (i've tried about 3 or 4 different clock radios).

i love this clock because i can set the light level to as dim as i like at night and still see the time without interfering with the light level i like in my bedroom, dark.

use as a bedroom radio, but not alarm clock.
great construction quality, audio is fine, controls are intuitive, has sleep timer (i plan to have it on a bed stand) and the light is easy to turn on or off.
it is in my bedroom and the light bothers my wife at night.
but my cat and bed sheets also do it and it is pretty senstive so the clock display sometimes comes on unrequested.
no more brightly lit bedroom, just wave your hand in front of the display and it comes on to tell you what time it is.

the clock display is bright enough to read, but it isn't so bright that it affects my ability to fall asleep (i keep it right next to my bed).
my old alarm clock used to jolt me out of bed with its horrible screech alarm but the sony alarm is much gentler on the old nerves.
as it is, one can't 100% rely on this radio to roust them out of bed in the morning.

i've been looking to replace my bed side radio alarm/clock.
i've actually invited a few friends to my bedroom to show off....my new alarm clock!
i tend to limit my actions to only a few things (2 radio stations, alarm off/on and performing those 0328am time checks to see how much longer i have to stay in bed).
if you don't hear the alarm right away, it automatically gets louder until you get your lazy arse out of bed.
i don't listen to the radio in bed, so that isn't a factor for me.

i wear contacts, but i keep the clock radio right beside my bed, so there isn't an issue there.
even the main display is really bright and can be like a night light -- but so close to the bed is too bright i found.
