the time is easier to read, it throws a large, red segmented time display slightly below eye level when the clock is, for instance, on a table by your bed and you're on your back looking upward.
it works fantastic...no more searching for the clock on the other side of the bed.
my parents' clock is on my dad's side of the bed, so she has to ask him when ever she wants to know what time it is.
you can be half blind and still see it and you don't have to raise up out of the bed to try to see the clock on the nightstand.
i like being able to see what temp it is in my bedroom as i get into bed and before i get up.
even the main display is really bright and can be like a night light -- but so close to the bed is too bright i found.
in any case, i only check the temp when i'm in bed.

while the features overall are pretty neat and this is a nice, compact design that is perfect for a night stand, i am finding that for a bedroom alarm clock it doesn't work so well.
this is a really great clock as long as you're not planning to use it for a bedside clock.
however, you may want total darkness in the bedroom at night.
