I decided to jump on the CB bandwagon to relieve the boredom on the hour long commute to work, my route takes me along a well known trucking route through central Florida, this radio which i purchased from amazon for just over $30 coupled with a nice $37 mag mount from Radio Shack (the best they had) and I was well away....anyone new to CB it is well worth learning the lingo before you transmit... Anyhow I have had some nice convo's with the truckers...its a great piece of equipment for any car or SUV.. I am now thinking on the handheld midlands.. (get a couple so i can ditch my FRS radios! from Amazon.com I installed my Midland 1001Z 40 Channel CB with Channel 9 Switch and PA on my PT Cruiser about 6 months ago. It's a basic CB that sends and receives fine. from Amazon.com I have had more than a few CBs over the years, including some very expensive single side bands. This little Midland performs at least as well, if not better than any! The clarity and range out of the box without "tweaking", are just superior. from Amazon.com This CB radio has an outstanding performance, but beware of the low volume on the internal speaker, just as an advice you should also buy an extension speaker, there are a lot of low priced Midland extensions on amazon from Amazon.com this cb radio is a great buy... I installed mine in my semi..and it works great...the radio is the same as the cobra 19..so i asssume whoever makes the midland also makes cobra radios.. It has excellent reception...and i like the added feature of the noise suppressor.. from Amazon.com Using a good quality extension speaker did the trick; but the radio has surprisingly good audio quality and volume from its internal speaker. An added bonus that NONE of the sellers; even the manufacturer ever mentions is that this rig does have an RF Gain control, a feature NEVER seen in a radio at this price point. Another thing I am impressed with is the fact that the squelch control actually works properly; set it for a particular threshold, and it will allow signals to pass selectively based on the FULL range of differently received signal strengths. It seems that the radio has some sort of "fuzzy logic" that allows a signal to break the squelch and remain received even as the signal fluctuates under the selected threshold to some degree. from Amazon.com i hooked it up to the cigarette lighter plug and connected it to the antenna i had used for the previous cb. from Amazon.com yes, it is small, but packed with the receive and transmit power that delivers clear cb communication. from Amazon.com i got this cb a month ago for my landcruiser and it's been working great. from Amazon.com i bought this radio to use it as means of communication with truck drivers on the route between san diego ca. from Amazon.com
