to be properly fitted in this seat at 20 pounds, you child would need to be tall for their age.

my daughter turned one in january but we didn't buy the recaro until she was 20 pounds which was about 3 months later.

if i had seen this earlier, i would have moved her to the recaro when she reached 20 pounds.
