i'll admit it took 2 tries, but 1st time install from start to finish in about 15 minutes, including the rear tether (my skeptical wife timed me, and verified the installation).

it's a good thing that this isn't the first car seat that a new parent has to buy because the sticker shock would make them miss out on the best investment a parent could make for their child and

Wize Buying Guide for First Time Mom
Buying your first car seat can be as
overwhelming as it is fun. There are so many options and designs to choose from
and the price range is just as diverse. When buying your first car seat,
remember that function is more important than design. While that little pink car
seat/carrier combo might be great for your little girl, she's going to outgrow
it rather quickly. A model that converts from a rear-facing infant car seat to a
forward-facing toddler car seat is usually more
practical.
If you do prefer a rear-facing infant
car seat for a baby under 20 pounds, the kind that clicks in and out of a "base"
is your best bet. This type of car seat eliminates the hassle of buckling and
unbuckling the seat belt every time you take the car seat in or out and you can
buy more than one base if you have more than one car, allowing you to use the
same seat for both vehicles.
If budget is a concern you might be
tempted to buy a car seat in the classifieds or at a garage sale. This is never
a good idea. Car seats actually do expire. If a car seat is more than six years
old, it might not be able to offer your baby the protection he or she needs.
Instead, look for a less expensive brand. As long as your child fits in the seat
comfortably and it meets safety standards, the name on the label shouldn't
matter.
