to wash this and protect it, i usually take the cover and padding sections off and place them in king size pillow case, tie it off and throw them in the washing machine, then i hang it all to dry.

i gave it 4 stars because their heads are too big for the headrest (side impact protection) pillow and there is no way they will be able to sit rear facing till 35 pounds.
