after taking test, i feel it will beat 17-55mm in the most situation if you have other lens to cover low light situation such as cheap 50/1.8.

70-300 vr is great, but 70mm is often too much and 18-135mm lens has no vr, so "no flash" in museums, aquariums etc.

i had been using the kit lens with my xt for about a year and it did a decent job for general photography, but it was terrible for low-light handheld stuff (which i do a lot of).

the autofocus sometimes has difficulties to focus in dark environments (indoors!), but that might be expected, as the lens is not too fast anyway.
