i keep it at work to make my protein shakes.
i bought this blender to keep at work to mix my diet/protein shakes - as i was tired of drinking them lumpy.
throwing together a smoothie, milkshake or frozen drink is a snap -- although i'm not sure how this model would perform in more creative food processing tasks.
i use this blender to make protein shakes every day, and it handles blending frozen fruit very easily, and best of all takes up very little counterspace.

#1 - a blender is supposed to be loud (in case you have never used one before) #2 - if you are blending a smoothie, the more you blend/pulse the smoother it will be!

my wife karen loves it for smoothies, and also rates it good.
i haven't used the large size one, but the smaller smoothie cup sizes and convenient and do the job.
sad to say...i now realize that most of the poor reviews were from people who don't know how to properly make a smoothie...
this blender works very well in chopping ice cubes, make smoothies and combining all the ingredients.

my only recourse was that i bought a kitcheaid blender that hasn't leaked yet, comes apart with a quick about quarter turn, and doesn't make my smoothies bounce off the lid (also causing mishaps).

if you want a blender that will crush ice and make smoothies, this is not it.

it is very durable plastic and makes wonderful smoothies for me and my boys.
the wave action does seem to work and helps for adding extra ingredients to smoothies.
i bought the 10-speed wave-action blender specifically for making fruit smoothies.
since my new blender arrived, i have been on a spree of smoothies and sauces.
