Easily better than the Vita-Mix. Check out the Blendtec website for video demonstrations and google "Will it blend" for YouTube videos that are awesome. I use the blender to make smoothies so I can only comment on that specific function. from Amazon.com indeed the price tag is a bit steep, but don't let that dissuade you. i previously owned a high end kitchenaid and while it was not bad, i still had to rock it back and forth, especially when making frozen drinks. after seeing vitamix demos at sam's club and hearing rave reviews about the blendtec, i finally decided to research the two. i'm so glad that i went with the blendtec...i use it 6 days a week on average for a variety of things, including making smoothies, grinding flaxseed, making dips, blending soups...the list goes on and on. from Amazon.com I don't normally complain, but this unit is not worthy of its price. Our Blendtec's jar washer assembly failed after 3 years of very sporadic use.
