I usually go thru 2-3 blenders every year, as I use them daily, for protein shakes, that I add ice to, and want it smooth. This does the job. from Hsn.com The first few times I used the unit it was great, powerful and convenient, but then there were plastic chunks in my drink that turned out to be the gasket. To make matters worse, Cuisinart does not offer a replacement and neither do any of the large and small retail outlets. It can grind up large frozen strawberries in no time with not even the tiniest chunks of berries left. I have a Vitamix that I paid over $500 for and this Cuisinart puts it to shame. I used it about 5 times and the motor burned out. Cuisinart replaced the base under warranty. The tap is very handy. On the minus side: the tap can trap (unblended) stuff (requiring a bleed and 2nd blend); it kind of bugs me that there isn't any good way to thoroughly clean the inside of the tap; and I now have a slow leak dribbling down the drive shaft of the blade.
