I bought a Cuisinart because I expected it to live up to its name. I don't ask much of it. from Amazon.com And it actually is a nice solid glass blender, which is good because I often blend hot soups - so heatproof glass is a major plus. Unfortunately the base is nowhere near as solid. It's almost comical that Cuisinart used such a cheap, easily cracked, plastic base with such a diesel pitcher. The problem is that if you tighten the glass pitcher onto the base with too much torque, you'll end up with a hairline crack in the base where it threads onto the pitcher. from Amazon.com And, after one year, the impeller leaks, rendering it worthless. First I thought it was the gasket, but quickly realized that it was leaking through the shaft. Checked out Cuisinart site, and new one only costs $10....oops, did I mention that they also want $5.95 in shipping. Almost 17% of the cost of a new one. from Amazon.com I wouldn't be surprised if one of these blenders catches on fire. Eventually it would stop working. Now I have to pay $20 dollars and wait a month to have it repaired even though Cuisinart knows that it has a serious design flaw. from Amazon.com My wife and I have been faithful Cuisinart purchasers until we bought this blender. It looks nice, but the plastic which holds the blades breaks easily then the blender leaks (hairline crack). from Amazon.com Avoid this piece of junk at all costs. Cuisinart is supposed to have a good reputation with appliances but they made a serious blender blunder when they allowed their name to appear on this monster. The burning rubber smell just gets worse and no matter how I try I cannot get the impeller seal to stop leaking -- all I've been able to do is vary the amount that it leaks all over the base and counter. from Amazon.com Beware, if you have ceramic tile flooring in your kitchen (as I do) and you drop any parts, it breaks (plastic or not). I dropped the little plastic cup that fits on the top of the lid and it chipped and cracked. No problem, I went to the Cuisinart website and ordered another one (not expensive). I also bought an extra gasket for the blade. from Amazon.com The Kitchen Aid models had what looked like a two ended wing nut that matched up with only two of the teeth of the base. I had read reviews on Epinions about the 5 models breaking off these teeth and not being repairable. So I disregarded the 5's $20 rebate and opted for the Cuisinart. Performance: from Amazon.com This morning, I went to make my usual smoothie and it wouldn't start. The motor was making horrible noises and then there was smoke and my kitchen smelled like smoke for hours. I called Cuisinart who said to bring it in the store where it was purchased. The store was kind enough to replace it but not before being dumbfounded the Cuisinart sent me into the store because it had been purchased well over a year ago (the 3-year warranty is the manufacturer's). from Amazon.com I spent the bread to buy the best blender Cuisinart makes, the most powerful motor, etc and etc. It appears scientifically designed to be unable to pour anything without spilling it everywhere, running all down the side of the glass -- I can't imagine what they were thinking when they designed this. from Amazon.com
