Also, I must add that they have a lifetime warranty, so they stand behind their product! I love that! I will definately look to Olympus for future purchases! from Thenerds.net I tried out other 8x42 models in a Galyon's sporting goods store. I won't deny the Leitz and Swarovskis were better, but they cost from 3 to 5 times as much! from Telescopes.com They easily compare with my Pentax HRII but are about 5 ounces lighter, a bit shorter and better balanced. They also focus down to about 9 feet which is fine for the birding I do. I appreciate the long eye-relief (18mm) of the 8 x 42 as I also have the 10 X 42 which has 15mm of eye-relief which is not quite enough for my glasses. Twist up eyecups help a lot here as I don't care for the rubber fold down eyecups found in some other binos in this price range. from Thenerds.net I own several olympus E-Cameras including the E1 & E3 and so naturally when I went to pick out a pair of binoculars for our recent trip to Alaska I went for these...the size seemed just right, and sure enough they were perfect for our trip. from Amazon.com The image quality is totally acceptable in my opinion. The lense covers dont stay on though. I was set on either the Nikon Monarchs or Leupold Cascade 8x42's and then I looked at the Olympus.
