Pros: I needed something at home as a server to facilitate up to 5 people to centrally log on and use apps that run on server 2008. I bought a shuttle with an Athlon 64 x2 the 5900 version which is a 65W processor and it works great. It is quiet, it is effective, very cost effective and handles all 5 users at once very well. from Newegg.com Pros: Joy to work with. Cables, heat sync, heat sync compound, well thought out design. Love the front ports and the overall design. from Newegg.com SKILL memory, and the 1TB Western Digital "green" drive, this unit is cool, quiet, and performs beautifully for my needs. I run Ubuntu 9.04 with the usual assortment of GUI hogs - firefox, thunderbird - and Java development tools. Assembly was not bad - quarters are tight, but Shuttle makes well-designed and efficient use of the minimal space. Thank goodness for eSata! 250w stock psu is not good for most mid range pci-e video cards so I upgraded mine with a PC50 from shuttle. My box does not exhibit the "cold boot" issue (or dual channel memory problem) so many have talked about. The PSU is plenty strong; my build has all "Shuttle Approved" parts, 4gb of RAM, a 640gb hard drive, 9400gt video, 7.1 razer audio card, and bluray drive. One caveat, I had to install the harddrive in the upper position of the cage...it was crunching like crazy when installed in the bottom position...but to be fair, this is not the first time I've had this sort of issue when installing a drive at the bottom position of a cage. from Newegg.com Other Thoughts: I waited a few days until I posted this review because, as mentioned above, this was built for a customer for his Karaoke/DJ gigs. After two nights in a hot club, I'm happy to report that the system performed flawlessly. I used Shuttle-certified components as far as the RAM and CPU were concerned, and the system has no problems with the non-officially-supported expansion cards as well. For folks who have had problems with memory or other periphs, I have to say that I have not seen any problems whatsoever. I just went to Shuttle's website to make sure I was buying compatible equipment. This is the first PC I have ever built "from scratch." With my wife looking over my shoulder, waiting to lay into me for not buying a pre-built one, it was a fairly tense hour or two until I had Windows all installed and upgraded. from Newegg.com
