it is machine washable, as it's instructions clearly say, and mine has been washed dozens of times as my daughter was a "spitter" and threw up at least a portion of every bottle for 9 months.

there's enough room that she can sit back and have a bottle without it touching our backs but she's also been comfy enough to fall asleep leaning forward and resting her head on her father's back.
